California Teachers Endorse Longtime Teacher Steve Bennett for State Assembly in District 37

The California Teachers Association (CTA) has endorsed Democrat Steve Bennett, a longtime teacher and the leading candidate in the race for Assembly District 37 in Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties. CTA joins the California Professional Firefighters and the Sierra Club, who previously endorsed Bennett. The CTA represents teachers, counselors, librarians, social workers, psychologists, nurses and others who work in our schools.

Bennett, a member of the Ventura County Board of Supervisors, has a 20-year career as a social studies teacher, counselor, assistant principal and coach. He understands the importance of increasing education funding that goes directly into our local classrooms.

“We’re pleased to support Steve Bennett because he will fight for much-needed school funding and resources our students need, including smaller class sizes,” said California Teachers Association President E. Toby Boyd. “As educators, we support Steve Bennett for Assembly because he has a proven record of fighting for our students – and of responsible leadership at the local level.”

Before being elected as a County Supervisor, Bennett served one term on the Ventura City Council. In addition to teachers and firefighters, Bennett is also supported by many local leaders, including fellow Ventura County Supervisors John Zaragoza and Linda Parks.
